Negishi Shinrin Park
park
根岸森林公園
A sweeping hilltop park built on Japan's first Western-style horse racecourse, with ruins and bay views.
Built on the grounds of the Negishi Racecourse (established 1866), this expansive park preserves the original grandstand ruins, a striking concrete structure overtaken by vegetation. The rolling lawns offer panoramic views of Yokohama Bay, and on clear days, Mt. Fuji appears on the horizon. A small Horse Museum on the grounds tells the story of equestrian culture in Japan.
The old grandstand is fenced off but photogenic from outside. Walk to the park's highest point for the best angle with Mt. Fuji behind the ruins.
