Nebuta Museum Wa Rasse

ねぶたの家 ワ・ラッセ
A striking red-ribboned museum on the Aomori waterfront displaying full-scale nebuta festival floats you can see up close year-round.
Wa Rasse preserves the massive illuminated floats from each year's Nebuta Matsuri in a dramatic waterfront building clad in red steel ribbons. The floats, some over 5 meters tall, depict warriors and mythological scenes with extraordinary painted detail. You can walk around and under them at close range, and the museum includes hands-on workshops where visitors try the hayashi musical accompaniment. For anyone who cannot visit during the August festival, this is the next best thing.
Visit in the late afternoon when the indoor lighting shifts to simulate the evening festival atmosphere. The floats glow from within and photographs come out much more dramatic.
