Overview
Imperial forest opened to the public, offering guided nature walks through beech woodlands and along mountain streams.
This 560-hectare forest in the Nasu Highlands was once part of the imperial estate before opening to the public in 2011. Guided walks move through mixed woodland, marshland, and wildflower meadows where seasonal changes are dramatic: cherry blossoms in spring, deep green canopy in summer, burnt reds and oranges in autumn, and snow-dusted trails in winter. The guides provide commentary on the forest ecology and local wildlife, and the pace is deliberately slow. It is a good half-day for anyone staying in the Nasu hot spring resort area.
