Overview

Picturesque terraced rice fields on an island.

Over 800 rice paddies are carved into the hills of Shodoshima. The landscape changes with the seasons, from water-filled mirrors in spring to lush green in summer and golden ears in autumn. It hosts a traditional Kabuki stage and an insect-repelling torch festival.
