Overview

Sacred island shrine forming the middle link in the Munakata worship tradition.

Located on the island of Oshima, this shrine is the second of the three Munakata shrines. It represents the crucial link between the mainland and the strictly forbidden, sacred island of Okinoshima. The shrine is surrounded by dense island greenery and looks out over the rough sea.

Local tips

Take the ferry from Konominato Port on the mainland, and check the return schedule closely so you don't get stranded overnight.
