Fall colors & clear blue waters on a walkway through a gorge dotted with stone statues of deities.
A river gorge in Niyodogawa, Kochi Prefecture, famous for the extraordinary clarity and vivid blue hue of the Niyodo River, known locally as Niyodo Blue. A well-maintained two-kilometer walking trail with boardwalks and suspension bridges winds past waterfalls, moss-covered boulders, and small stone Buddhist figures set into rock alcoves. Autumn transforms the gorge into a tunnel of crimson and gold reflecting off the turquoise water. The trail is manageable for most fitness levels, with some stairs. Spring and autumn are ideal, though the shaded gorge also offers cool relief in summer.
