Uninhabited island revered as a sacred martyrs' site by hidden Christians.
An uninhabited island off the coast of Hirado that serves as a profoundly sacred site for hidden Christians. Following the execution of martyrs here in the 17th century, the island itself became an object of quiet veneration. Visitors cannot land on the island, but boat tours offer viewing from the water.
Because you cannot physically step onto the island, bring binoculars on the boat to clearly see the rocky shrines on the shore.
