Nagoya City Art Museum

Nagoya City Art Museum occupies a modernist building designed by Kurokawa Kisho in Shirakawa Park, one of the city's central green spaces. The permanent collection is strong on twentieth-century art, particularly the School of Paris, Mexican muralism, and postwar Japanese movements including Gutai and Mono-ha. Frequent temporary exhibitions often bring in major international loans. The building itself is worth studying for its geometric forms and the way natural light moves through the galleries. A ground-floor sculpture garden extends into the surrounding park, blurring the line between inside and outside. The museum sits near Fushimi Station and pairs well with a walk through Shirakawa Park.
