Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine

The main draws are seasonal. Late April brings large crowds for the tall red Kirishima azaleas along the path over Hachijogaike Pond. For a quieter visit, arrive in early March when the grove of 300 plum trees is in bloom.
Purify your hands at the temizuya before approaching the main hall. Left hand first, then right, then pour water into your left hand to rinse your mouth.
