Nagamachi District

The draw is the preserved Edo-period urban structure: narrow lanes and earthen walls that survived where many other castle towns burned. Visit in winter to see residents wrap these walls in straw mats, a measure against frost. The district has no closing hours, so the lanes are walkable anytime.
