Local Pick
Overview
The original yatai (food stall) district where Hakata ramen was born, grittier and more local than Nakasu.
While tourists flock to Nakasu's yatai, the Nagahama yatai strip along the waterfront is where Fukuoka's ramen culture actually started. These no-frills stalls serve ultra-thin noodles in milky tonkotsu broth, and the kaedama (extra noodle) system was invented here. The clientele is almost entirely local.
Local tips
Order 'kata-men' (firm noodles) and 'kaedama' (noodle refill for 100 yen). Nagahama Yatai Ramen #1 is the most legendary stall.
