Nagahama Castle History Museum

長浜城歴史博物館
This castle’s history and the history of Nagahama are both tied to Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537–1598), the samurai lord who founded the city and gave it its name.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi built his first castle on this site in 1576, and both the city of Nagahama and the museum building designed to resemble a castle of that period carry his legacy. Five floors of exhibits cover local history and the warlords of the surrounding region, with armor, maps, and folding screens depicting battles including the 1583 Battle of Shizugatake, fought 15 kilometers away. Audio guides are available in English, Korean, and Chinese. A tea room offers prepared tea with views across the grounds, and the adjacent park's 600 cherry trees are popular for spring hanami in late March and early April.
