The museum’s galleries display a wealth of artifacts from Naegi domain.
The Naegi Toyama Historical Museum traces the Toyama family's rule of a Kiso River valley domain across 12 generations. The centerpiece is the Kazafuki Gate, the only original wooden structure from Naegi Castle still standing, kept open when the lord was in residence and closed when he was in Edo. Two handwritten letters from the second Tokugawa shogun Hidetada thank the local lord for dried chestnuts called kachi-guri, a word that doubles as 'winning' in Japanese, received around the time of the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600. A detailed georama reconstructs the full castle as it appeared at the end of the Edo period.
