park
鍋島藩窯公園
Kiln-ruin park on the forested slope above Okawachiyama, with reconstructed Edo-period stepped kilns and modern ceramic art among the rocks.
On the forested slope above Okawachiyama village, Nabeshima Hanyo Park preserves the ruins of several Edo-period stepped kilns alongside reconstructed climbing kilns including the Sutra Stone Kiln (Okyo Ishi Kama) and Kiyohara Kiln. The park combines original kiln remains with modern ceramic artwork set among unusually shaped rocks, and includes a reconstructed checkpoint that once protected the secrets of Nabeshima porcelain. The slope gives quiet views down onto the kiln chimneys of the village. Open year-round; particularly atmospheric during the autumn Nabeshima ware festival.
Pair with the Korean potters' memorial across the river for the fuller historical picture — both halves of how Nabeshima porcelain came to exist.
