Winter illumination gardens competing for Japan's top prize with millions of LED lights transforming the landscape.
Nabana no Sato in Kuwana, Mie Prefecture, runs what is widely considered the finest winter illumination display in Japan, transforming its riverside gardens with millions of LED lights from October through May into glowing tunnels and large animated scenes that change design each year. During daytime in spring and summer the focus shifts to vast fields of tulips, begonias, cosmos, and roses, with the autumn dahlia displays drawing particular attention. Restaurants, an onsen, and the park's position along the Nagara River make a full day here easy to fill. It is about an hour from Nagoya by train and bus.
