Main hall built 807, rebuilt 1321, designated national treasure blending Japanese and Chinese architectural influences.
Myooin Temple's main hall, rebuilt in 1321 after the original 807 structure was lost, is a designated National Treasure that blends Japanese and Chinese architectural influences in a way rarely seen elsewhere. The five-story pagoda is another National Treasure, one of only a handful in the country. Originally located on Tsunenobu Island, the entire complex was relocated to its current hillside site in Fukuyama during the Meiji era. It's a quiet, uncrowded spot that rewards anyone with an interest in medieval Japanese architecture.
Remove shoes before entering any hall. Look for a shoe rack at the entrance. Carry a plastic bag for your shoes if none is provided.
