Mutsumi Bridge

Mutsumi Bridge crosses the Hida River just south of Gero Station, and its name, meaning six views, refers to the famous sights of Gero once visible from this spot: Mt. Kobo, the glow over volcanic Mt. Yugamine, a great cedar at Moriminashi Hachiman Shrine, steam rising from the outdoor hot spring, a mountain locals call the Fuji of Gero, and the cherry blossoms of Onsenji Temple. The original suspension bridge from 1923 was replaced by the current bowstring truss design after the train station opened in 1930. For several decades it was the only direct route between the station and the onsen district. The Japan Society of Civil Engineers recognized it as significant civil engineering heritage in 2010.
