Overview

World-class collection of Korean and Chinese ceramics, including two designated National Treasures of Japan.

The world's largest single collection of Korean and Chinese ceramics, donated by collector Atsuhiko Ataka in 1982. The Ataka Collection holds two pieces designated National Treasures of Japan and 13 designated Important Cultural Properties. The 2024 renovation added natural daylight rooms designed for Korean celadons. The building sits on Nakanoshima between the rose garden and the Central Public Hall.

Local tips

Closed Mondays. Allow 90 minutes for the full Ataka Collection plus the rotating Chinese Tang/Song galleries on the second floor.
