Overview

Pond and foundational ruins of a spectacular Pure Land temple aligned with the setting sun.

The remains of a grand temple modeled after Byodo-in in Uji, built by the third Fujiwara lord. Although only the foundation stones and a reconstructed pond remain, the alignment with Mount Kinkeizan creates a stunning sunset view during the equinoxes. It reflects the pinnacle of Hiraizumi's Pure Land architecture.

Local tips

There are no standing buildings here, so viewing the AR (Augmented Reality) reconstruction on a smartphone application provides necessary context.
