Overview
Winter night event featuring thousands of Chinese-style lanterns.
Held at Murasaki Mura, a theme park that recreates a 14th-century Ryukyuan town, this festival runs from early December to late March. Thousands of lanterns of all shapes and sizes are lit, casting a warm, nostalgic glow over the red-tiled buildings and stone paths. It reflects the deep cultural ties between Okinawa and China. Special projection mapping shows are displayed on the gates, and local performers provide live Sanshin music. The atmosphere is much more tranquil than the high-energy summer festivals.
