Mt. Usu Ropeway
viewpoint
有珠山ロープウェイ
Six-minute cable car to a ridge above the Mt. Usu crater with views over Lake Toya, Showa Shinzan, and the Pacific.
Operating since 1954, the ropeway climbs from the Showa Shinzan parking lot to an upper station at 569 meters. From the platform, a 7-minute walk leads to the Crater View Observatory looking down into the still-active Ginnuma Crater that erupted in 1977. The far observatory adds a second view back across Lake Toya to Mt. Yotei. Both walks are paved.
Catch the first morning ride for clear-air Lake Toya views before the afternoon haze.
