Overview
This monument was erected to commemorate the building of the first road to the entrance of Lake Towada, known as Ne no Kuchi. In the Edo era (1603–1867), the governor of the Gonohe territories, Kimura Matasuke Hideharu, was sent here by a southern lord to construct a road leading to the lake. A stone monument was erected here in 1693 to commemorate the successful opening of this road. This updated sign was put up in the same location as the original stone monument in 1988.
