Mt. Tenjo

天上山
Mt. Tenjo rises 972 meters in the forested Tsutsuga district of southern Akiota, reached by a strenuous trail that passes through Hikiake no Mori, an ancient forest of towering cryptomeria, hinoki cypress, and Japanese horse chestnut trees ranging from 100 to 400 years old. Fallen, decomposing trunks lie alongside centuries-old giants and new growth, creating a vivid picture of forest cycles. The trail begins near Ryuzu gorge, a Forest Therapy base, and is recommended for experienced hikers only. Those who make it to the summit are rewarded with views across the mountains of southern Hiroshima Prefecture.
