A conical, sacred hill serving as the spatial and spiritual axis of Hiraizumi.
A sacred, conical mountain serving as the spiritual and spatial axis for the town of Hiraizumi. According to legend, a pair of golden roosters was buried at its summit to protect the city. A short, steep hike leads to a quiet summit with sutra burial mounds.
Local tips
The trail to the top is short but unpaved and occasionally steep, so standard sneakers are highly recommended.
