Overview

Highest peak in Kirishima range with summit views spanning both Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures.

Highest peak in the Kirishima volcanic range at 1,700 meters, and its summit rewards hikers with sweeping views across both Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures. The main trail starts from the Ebino Kogen plateau and takes roughly 90 minutes to climb, passing volcanic crater lakes with vivid blue-green water along the way. The terrain is otherworldly: bare volcanic rock, steaming vents, and stunted vegetation shaped by wind and sulfur. Spring brings dense clusters of wild Miyama-Kirishima azaleas that turn the mountainsides pink and purple, while autumn paints the lower slopes in warm reds and oranges.
