1,700-meter volcanic peak in Fukushima, listed among Japan's Hundred Great Mountains, with a ridgeline shaped by volcanic activity between 500,000 and 200,000 years ago. The mountain is still active. Rhododendrons and azaleas bloom across its slopes in June and July in shades from pale yellow to deep crimson, and the autumn foliage turns the mountain red in October. The Adatara Mountain Ropeway runs during the green season (April to November) to Yakushidake Panorama Park halfway up. From there, a moderate 75-minute hike on a 2.4-kilometer trail leads to the summit, with views of Mt. Osho to the south and the Azuma Range to the north.
