Mount Unzen Ropeway
nature
雲仙ロープウェイ
Ropeway over steaming volcanic vents with views across the Shimabara Peninsula.
An aerial ropeway ascending Mount Myoken in the Unzen volcanic range, passing over steaming sulfurous vents and azalea-covered slopes. The summit offers panoramic views of the Shimabara Peninsula, Ariake Sea, and on clear days, Kumamoto across the water.
Combine with a walk through the Unzen Jigoku (hells) hot spring area at the base of the ropeway. Autumn foliage on the mountain slopes is spectacular in late October.
