Mount Katsuragi Azalea Forest

Entire mountaintop blanketed in wild pink azaleas each May, reached by ropeway from Gose City.
Each May, the 959-meter summit of Mount Katsuragi erupts in a solid carpet of wild rhododendrons covering the entire mountainside in vivid pink and red, creating one of Japan's most dramatic floral spectacles. A ropeway from Gose City carries visitors to the top, where the blooms contrast with blue sky and green forest. The phenomenon rivals cherry blossom season but draws a fraction of the attention.
