Overview

Mt. Eboshi and Mt. Yunomaru sit on the western edge of the Yunomaru Highland, the oldest peaks in the Asama-Eboshi volcanic range. Mt. Eboshi's unusually sharp summit, named after the tall peaked hats worn by Heian court officials, rises to 2,066 meters, while the more rounded Mt. Yunomaru at 2,101 meters is known for its flower-covered slopes in summer. Both summits can be reached from Yunomaru Campground in about five hours. In winter, a ski resort operates at the base, and guided snowshoeing trips offer a chance to spot the elusive Japanese serow in the snow-covered forest.

Local tips

Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
