カトリック元町教会
Gothic church from 1859, one of Japan's oldest Catholic parishes.
A Gothic-style Catholic church originally established in 1859 by French missionaries, making it one of Japan's oldest. The current building dates from 1924, and its distinctive octagonal bell tower is an iconic element of the Motomachi slope district skyline.
The three churches of Motomachi (Catholic, Orthodox, Episcopal) are within a few minutes' walk of each other. Visit all three to appreciate the diversity of Hakodate's foreign heritage.
