Motoise Kono Jinja Shrine
元伊勢籠神社
4.3Est. 90Miyazu, Kansai
JTA Approved
Find this shrine at the north end of the Amanohashidate sandbar. The architecture deliberately echoes Ise Jingu; look for the forked rooftop finials and five-colored jewel decorations along the railings. While the shrine holds Japan’s oldest surviving genealogical record, it is rarely shown to the public.
Local tips
Purify your hands at the temizuya before approaching the main hall. Left hand first, then right, then pour water into your left hand to rinse your mouth.
