Momijidani Park (Miyajima)

紅葉谷公園
Vibrant autumn maple leaves in a valley on the sacred island of Miyajima.
Momijidani Park, located at the base of Mt. Misen on Miyajima Island, is one of Japan's most celebrated autumn foliage spots. 'Momiji' means maple, and the park is home to around 700 trees that turn brilliant shades of crimson and orange in November. The park was originally landscaped in the Edo period when maple saplings were planted along the river. The iconic red Momijibashi bridge at the park's entrance is a focal point for visitors and photographers. Beyond the bridge, walking paths wind through the forest toward the ropeway station, offering quiet spots to appreciate the 'koyo' (autumn colors) away from the crowds at Itsukushima Shrine. The island's wild deer are often seen resting under the colorful canopy.
