Overview
Heritage steam railway running 1930s locomotives through rice paddies and seasonal flower fields.
One of Japan's few remaining steam locomotive heritage lines, the Moka Railway runs weekend SL trains through the flat rice-paddy landscape between Shimodate and Motegi. The C11 and C12 class locomotives date to the 1930s, and the coaches retain their original wooden interiors. Photographers line the tracks during cherry blossom and cosmos seasons to capture the billowing steam against flower fields.
