Mochio Park

母智丘公園
Home to thousands of sakura trees, becoming a cloud of pink from mid-March, attracting thousands of enthralled visitors.
Mochio Park in Miyakonojo, Miyazaki Prefecture, is one of southern Kyushu's most celebrated cherry blossom sites, with approximately 2,600 sakura trees lining a gentle hillside and the approach road. Selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots, the park transforms into waves of pink from mid-March through early April, slightly earlier than most sites in mainland Japan due to Miyazaki's mild climate. During peak bloom, the tree-lined avenue leading up to the park creates a natural tunnel of blossoms, and evening illuminations add a romantic atmosphere after dark. At the hilltop, Mochio Shrine offers panoramic views over the surrounding farmland. The park is also pleasant in autumn when scattered maples provide color, though spring remains the undisputed highlight.
