Miyajima Omotesando Shopping Street
宮島表参道商店街
4.3Est. 90Hatsukaichi, Chugoku
Overview
Bustling main street of Miyajima, lined with shops selling grilled oysters, momiji manju, and other snacks.
Omotesando is the main street connecting Miyajima's ferry terminal to Itsukushima Shrine, and most visitors walk it at least twice. Vendors along the way sell grilled oysters directly from the fire, sweet and briny, grown in the bay surrounding the island. Momiji manju, small maple-leaf cakes filled with red bean or custard, are everywhere here, and the island is also known for wooden rice paddles. It is a working shopping street rather than a curated experience, busy and loud at peak hours, quieter in the early morning.
