Mitake Visitor Center provides maps of hiking trails in the surrounding mountains and information on local flora and fauna.
Before hiking Mt. Mitake, the visitor center at the base is worth a stop for trail maps and current conditions. The ground floor displays introduce the mountain's wildlife, including deer, Japanese serows, endemic flying squirrels, and several snake species. A large multilingual touchscreen gives detailed information on flora and fauna. Upstairs, historical photographs and equipment replicas document the lives of people who once lived on the mountain, some images more than a century old, alongside the tools they used to carry goods up the steep trails. Pamphlets on nearby attractions are available in multiple languages.
