Mitake Tozan Railway

The Mitake Tozan Railway cable car climbs 1.1 kilometers from Takimoto Station at the base of Mt. Mitake to Mitakesan Station at 831 meters, covering in 6 minutes an ascent that would take about an hour on foot. The ride passes through oak, cedar, and fir forest, and deer, wild boar, and tanuki are sometimes visible on the slopes. Both stations have restrooms and souvenir shops, and ticket machines have English display options. For children living on the mountain, this cable car is their daily school commute. The line runs seven days a week, with occasional suspensions after earthquakes for safety checks.
