御来屋

Est. 60¥¥Daisen, Chugoku

Overview

Fishing town with a harbor, wide high street and welcoming fish market.

Small fishing harbor district in Daisen (formerly part of Sakaiminato's broader coastal area) where the day's catch goes straight from the boats to the market stalls and restaurants lining the waterfront. The specialty here is fresh crab in winter and squid in summer, served simply grilled, as sashimi, or in generous rice bowls. The harbor has a workaday charm, with fishing nets drying on the docks and the smell of salt air mixing with grilled seafood smoke. Prices are reasonable for the quality, with most seafood sets running between 1,000 and 2,000 yen, making it a worthwhile detour for anyone traveling along the San'in coast.
