Mikimoto's flagship pearl shop, founded 1899 by Kokichi Mikimoto, the inventor of cultured pearls. The current building, opened 2017, was designed by Toyo Ito with a steel-shelled exterior of perforated holes that backlight at night. The ground floor displays a curated heritage collection including the 1937 Akoya pearl crown made for the Paris World's Fair; the upper floors are the working showroom.
Local tips
The heritage display is free and viewable without a salesperson. The annual Mikimoto Christmas tree on the corner plaza is a Ginza winter tradition since 1976.
