Michinoku Coastal Trail
みちのく潮風トレイル
Overview
The Michinoku Coastal Trail is a long-distance walking trail that extends 1,025 kilometers along the Pacific coast in northern Tohoku.
The Michinoku Coastal Trail follows 1,025 kilometers of Pacific coastline through Tohoku, from Hachinohe in Aomori down to Soma in Fukushima. The name Michinoku means 'the end of land,' an ancient term for this remote northern region. The Hachinohe section covers a gentle 15-kilometer stretch along the Tanesashi Coast, where the path winds through rugged rock formations, pine forest, white sand beaches, and open grasslands. Seasonal wildflowers appear along the route, and signs mark points of interest. This section is accessible and rewards walkers with varied coastal scenery without demanding technical skill.
