Michi-no-Eki Ashoro Ginga Hall 21

This roadside rest area at the junction of National Routes 241 and 242 is a practical stop for anyone heading into Akan-Mashu National Park from the west. Inside, a restaurant covers Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes, and the souvenir shop stocks local jams, milk, and award-winning Ashoro cheeses. The former Furusato Ginga railway ran through Ashoro from 1910 to 2006, and a track replica is displayed here alongside the original station building. Concrete footprints around the station reference the Japanese word ashi meaning foot, from which the town gets its name. Satomigaoka Park, a 10-minute walk away, has a free natural footbath.
