Set in a beautifully restored wooden house with a garden courtyard, Matsubara-an serves hand-cut buckwheat soba with seasonal tempura and a curated sake list. The open sliding doors let in sea breezes from nearby Yuigahama Beach, and the garden seating under persimmon trees feels like dining at a friend's countryside home. The soba is stone-ground in-house daily.
The garden terrace tables go fast. Arrive at 11am opening or reserve ahead. The seasonal soba with wild mountain vegetables in spring is outstanding.
