A preserved Kyoto townhouse where visitors learn Kyo-yuzen, the art of hand-painting intricate designs on silk using rice-paste resist. The studio has been operating since the Meiji era and offers both simple stencil dyeing and advanced freehand painting courses.
Local tips
The furoshiki (wrapping cloth) dyeing course is the best value. A useful, beautiful souvenir for about 3,000 yen.
