Marugame Uchiwa Museum

Paper fan making is the focus at this unique museum with demonstrations, exhibits & a gift shop.
Marugame has made more uchiwa flat fans than anywhere else in Japan for over 300 years, and this small free museum tells that story well. Exhibits trace the history of fan-making alongside displays of beautifully decorated vintage examples, and live demonstrations show how artisans split bamboo, paste washi paper, and paint designs. Visitors can try making their own fan in hands-on workshops, leaving with something functional and genuinely handmade. The museum sits near the waterfront, making it a natural pairing with Marugame Castle just up the hill, one of Japan's twelve surviving original castle structures.
