Manabe Garden
garden
真鍋庭園
Japan's first conifer garden with a fairytale atmosphere.
Manabe Garden in Obihiro covers a wide range of garden styles, from a traditional Japanese garden with carp pond to a conifer forest, rose hill, and an eight-meter waterfall with a trout pond. Most plants typically found in Japanese gardens cannot survive Hokkaido winters, so the carp pond is fed by piped hot spring water to keep the surrounding ground warm enough for them to flourish. The conifer collection is particularly broad, with hundreds of species, many sourced from colder regions of North America that proved well-suited to Hokkaido conditions. The main paths are wheelchair accessible. Open late April through November.
