Popular attraction in Shizuoka offering memorable experiences for visitors.
The Ikawa Yume-no-Tsuribashi is a pedestrian suspension bridge deep in the Oi River valley in the mountains of Shizuoka, spanning a narrow gorge about 200 meters up from the water. The bridge sways with footfall and wind, and the view down the river valley through the wire mesh floor is vertiginous for those unsteady with heights. The access involves a ride on the Ikawa Forest Railway, a narrow-gauge line that runs through tunnels and along cliff edges into the valley. The combination of the unusual train journey and the bridge crossing makes the full trip take most of a day from Shizuoka city, but it's a genuinely different kind of excursion in a part of the prefecture rarely visited.
