新町川沿いLEDイルミネーション
One of the world’s leading producers of LED lights, Tokushima Prefecture is home to more than 100 companies involved in their manufacture.
Tokushima Prefecture produces LED components for more than 100 manufacturers and, for much of the 2010s, channeled that expertise into an outdoor LED art festival. The permanent legacy of those events is the illuminated bridges along the Shinmachi River, lit daily from sunset to midnight. Fureai Bridge carries one of the prize-winning designs from 2010, a piece called Raccoon on Rainbow by Tokushima-born artist Taho Ritsuko. Her design draws from two local folk stories about tanuki raccoon dogs and incorporates scenes from both tales along the bridge's west face, with seasonal motifs from Awa Odori, Mt. Bizan, and traditional indigo dyeing.
