相模湖
Artificial lake from the damming of Sagami River with leisure activities, perfect for daytrips from Tokyo or Yokohama.
Lake Sagami in Sagamihara was created in 1947 by damming the Sagami River to supply water to greater Yokohama, but the reservoir has since become one of the more popular outdoor escapes within reach of Tokyo. Rental boats for bass and wakasagi smelt fishing, camping grounds with cabin and tent options, and barbecue areas along the wooded shores draw day-trippers and weekenders throughout the year. The Sagamiko Resort Pleasure Forest on the eastern shore runs a large winter illumination event that brings over a million visitors between November and February. Summer fireworks displays are among the largest in Kanagawa Prefecture. From Shinjuku by train it takes about an hour, which makes it practical for a full day away from the city without a long journey.
