Overview
Shoreline that turns crimson red in autumn when coral grass reaches peak color.
Every September, the salt-marsh glasswort (Sango-sho) around Lake Notoro turns a deep red, making the shoreline look like it’s covered in a carpet of rubies. Wooden boardwalks allow you to walk right into the middle of the 'crimson sea.' It’s a unique botanical phenomenon that occurs in very few places in Japan.
