Est. 90Bungo-Ono, Kyushu

Overview

Oku Bungo course walked at relaxed pace in 4-5 hours with minimal elevation gain under 100 meters.

The Oku Bungo Olle course winds through rural Oita at a relaxed pace, covering about 4 to 5 hours with minimal elevation gain. Along the route, you pass a historic villa belonging to the Nakagawa clan, who ruled the Oka domain during the Edo period, Yujaku Park with its vivid autumn foliage, and the largest rock-face Buddha carving in Japan, a 12-meter Magaibutsu. Stone walls formed by ancient Mt. Aso eruptions and the ruins of Oka Castle on a 325-meter plateau add historical depth to the walk. Finish at Bungo-Taketa Station and soak in the nearby Taketa Onsen Hanamizuki.
